Indication for percutaneous aortic valve implantation
The incidence of valvular aortic stenosis has increased over the past decades due to improved life expectancy. Surgical aortic valve replacement is currently the only treatment option for severe symptomatic aortic stenosis that has been shown to improve survival. However, up to one third of patients who require lifesaving surgical aortic valve replacement are denied surgery due to high comorbid...
متن کاملPercutaneous aortic valve implantation: the anesthesiologist perspective
Percutaneous aortic valve implantation is an emergent technique alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement in high risk patients with aortic stenosis. Percutaneous aortic valve implantation techniques are undergoing rapid development and currently represent a dynamic field of research. Perioperative optimal strategies keep on evolving too. At a review of the literature, only three previou...

ardio 77-year-old man presented with increasingly ymptomatic severe aortic stenosis (AS). Echocardioram showed an aortic valve area of 0.6 cm and a ean pressure gradient of 57 mm Hg. It could not be scertained conclusively if the valve was tricuspid or icuspid due to heavy calcification (Figs. 1A and 1B). ortic annulus was 20 mm in diameter. Left ventriclar ejection fraction was 40%. At cardiac...
متن کاملA second-time percutaneous aortic-valve implantation for bioprosthetic failure
We report a case of an 84-year-old man with a history of surgical aortic-valve replacement for chronic aortic regurgitation (AR) who later developed severe prosthetic valve AR. Subsequent treatment with a Corevalve® was unsuccessful with severe AR seen at 3 years after the valve-in-valve procedure. The patient was then successfully treated with a second catheter-based Corevalve® implantation.
متن کاملComputational Decision Support for Percutaneous Aortic Valve Implantation
Valve replacement is the most common therapy for diseased aortic valves. Percutaneous approaches are becoming increasingly popular, due to reduced procedural complications and lower follow-up rates. Still there is a lack of efficient tools for valve quantification and preoperative simulation of replacement and repair procedures. Thus the success of the intervention relies to a large portion on ...
